Heres new approach to Whistle Tweaking I’ve not seen before with an added piece of pipe to get C and C#!
why didn’t anyone think of this before?
I’ve got one of these and it’s pretty good. I hoped to put a note up on C&F, but haven’t had time. Tommy from the C&F list makes these.
Just a word or two. The C and C# work fine, but the fipple is what I find to be really nice. It’s removable and so I’ve used it on lots of other whistles it fits–such as a regular Mellow D, a Walton C and a Feadog C (I don’t have a Generation C to know if it would fit also). It improves their sound (my favorite being the tweaked top on the Feadog).
I have one of Jerry Freeman’s Mellow Dogs and I like it very much. I think Tommy’s tweaked fipple is comparable–and, as I say, it’s removable so it can be used on various whistle bodies.
It’s a good buy.
Drill a thumb hole and you’ve got a German-fingered recorder.
So - YO! Tommy - how about some more info?!
Not that there’s anything wrong with that now.

One of the reasons I figured that I could learn the whistle was that I already knew German recorder fingerings in C. (also baroque in C and F but as a co-worker says, if it’s baroque you better fix it.)
I was able to play some of Tommy’s creations last night. (He attends the same session I go to) I only played them for a short time, so these are only initial views, what I can remember about them and is not a full review. He had a generation tweak. I liked it alot. It had the classic sound of a Gen. very chirpy and trad, but seemed to be even through out the octave, in tune and very fast. Interestingly, the fipple blade (i THINK) doesn’t have a sharp edge but rather its rolled under. Not sure how it effects the whistle, but the results are nice. Nice tweaked whistle. Tommy is also working on another creation that I am very interested in seeing how it develops. I’ll let tommy tell about them when he is ready to and I won’t spoil what it is.
