Harp

There seems to be hardly anything about the harp on these forums. In fact, I can’t find any good forum or discussion list on the non-pedal harp anywhere on the web. Could anyone suggest something? I’m mainly interested in Irish and Welsh pieces, and in the nylon or gut “Celtic” harp and triple harp (I have a double harp) but also in the wire strung Irish harp.

Thanks

Andrew Smith

Have you tried : http://www.celticharper.com/main.html

I stumbled across it last week while I was mooching for harp-related stuff on the web (purely out of interest, I don’t play one).

Edited to add: I think Sonia plays harp, she posts here sometimes but I can’t remember her pseudonym… sjk? sjh? Anyway, there’s a forum listed on that website in the ‘general information’ links page.

Hope this helps!

You mean Sonja? With a J? That would be ‘skh’. I don’t know what she plays exactly.

There’s a harper at a session near me, wire strung Irish harp, I believe. Rather unusual, I think,
in that most harpers seem to lean towards O’Carolans and slow airs, but this one, at least,
plays all kinds of jigs and reels and suchlike session tunes (and airs and O’Carolans as well, of
course.) Of course, the number of Irish harpers I’ve actually met I can count on one hand.

Well if’n you want the equivilent of the ultimate harp website then you need to go to Yahoo’s Groups and check out the harplist there.

Good luck and have fun…there’s tons of stuff for Celtic harps online.

Edited to say there is also a Yahoo group for double strung harps…I think its listed as 2x harps.

Sonja is a German spelling of Sonia.

I don’t know where she is. She hasn’t posted in a long time, but yes, she does play harp.
