…to Me and I’m going to finally take the plunge into the conical flute waters thanks to my loving wife. I’ve been playin Itrad on whistle and Boehm flute ( hey it works for Joannie) and I’ve decided to get a more traditional flute.
I am getting on Dave Copleys list for one of his blackwood beauties. But Alas for me I have no patience.
I have decided to buy a Dixon polymer flute to tide me over until my Copley is ready and then sell it when my Copley is done. (unless I can talk my beautiful wife into keeping both )
So… Does anyone have a Dixon polymer laying around that they’ld be willing to sell. I would even be willing to sell it back when my Copley arrives because I’m fairly sure my wife won’t go for the 2 flute idea.

I’m in a very similar situation! been playing trad Welsh (and Irish) on silver flute - then open holed piccolo and 2 days ago I got a Dixon 3 piece polymer to tide me over to practise on till my Lehart is ready (8 months)
My husband can’t believe the amount of money involved (and I only told him AFTER I ordered everything - my excuse is not a birthday but a tax rebate - which I decided was mine!!) - he thinks a flute is a flute and what’s wrong with my £12 indian bamboo ones anyway (one of which is in eflat and I can’t reach the bottom hole and the other is in a rather nebulous key although it does have a very nice tone for a cheapo bamboo!) Ah well - I have time to convince him I really need the Dixon and the Lehart!
How do you find the Dixon? I can get the notes out really easily but I think it will take me a bit of time to get a really good tone (and get my fingers really working!)
Colin - Perhaps you could call Frank Simpson the Seery distributor here in the US nightly and see if that speeds up my Seery…if it did, I probably have a Dixon I’m going to sell…
The Dixon 3 piece really is a nice flute, and I think it would help immensely with development prior to your Copley.
Cariad - For good tone on a Dixon, you night a very focused embouchure. When you get it right, you’ll be surprise how good a $200 flute can sound.

I’ve not had it a week yet but it’s going quite well. I can focus my embouchure quite well I think but I just need more power to get more energy into my playing as I think in comparison to experienced players my tone is a bit too soft - probably due to coming from silver flute to this… so I need to work at it.. (which is fun anyways!)
