I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice: Whenever I play my Dixon polymer for even a short time, I get pain down the middle of my palm and down my wrist.
I do NOT get pain, though, when playing my Olwell Bamboo in F or my regular Boehm/silver flute, which are both about the same size bore.
Can anyone offer suggestions for how I can improve my position on the Dixon? It doesn’t look like I’m having to stretch anymore than on the Olwell but something definitely feels different. The size of the bore is larger
on the Dixon.
Thanks, Jeanie
I forgot to specify that it’s my left hand that has the pain.
Jeanie:
Try this thread:

and see if you find what you need there. I’m pretty much pain free, now (unless I get overwrought and start gripping the flute too hard!)
Best of luck,
Aaron
Is this the three piece? How are you holding
the flute? That may well be the issue.
Where is it balanced on your hand?
Yes, it is the 3-piece polymer Dixon flute.
I balance it against the side of the bottom joint of my left index finger. The pain is in the muscles of my hand directly down from there. I am a gripper, so that may be part of the problem…
I’ll follow the suggested thread.
Thanks, Jeanie

Is it the inside of the hand (in the palm below the index finger) or along the back of the hand?
It’s the inside of my palm that hurts, rather than the back of the hand. Really, it’s in the area just down from my index finger and next to where the thumb connects to the palm.
Thanks for any advice!
Jeanie
