Hammered Dulcimer Festival Oct. 25, Princeton, MA

Whistle players, fiddlers, and others are invited to join in at the jam sessions. I’m going to try to make this one, since it’s about 15 minutes away from me. The web site is:

Is that where everybody gets hammered and then plays mountain dulcimers, or does that only happen in the Ozarks?..

For anybody that cares…

This was extremely cool! Lots of dulcimer players, I got to play a dulcimer in 3 classes, and in the fast jam I played the whistle while sitting next to two cool elderly fiddle players (and also got a compliment on my playing, gasp!). It was really fun, and the concert at the end included, among other things, a woman playing the hurdy-gurdy! I had never seen one before, and it has got to be the most bizarre instrument I’ve ever seen.

It happens again next year, and I’ll definitely be there!

Here is a page of clips for any interested in seeing and hearing a hurdy gurdy. The last piece is definately worth a listen.

Addictive little critters, aren’t they? Welcome to the dark side :moreevil:

They do cast a spell! I had one about 20 years ago and gave it to someone (from St. Louis actually) who was able to play it better in an hour than I had been able to in a couple of years. It makes me feel good to this day in that this was probably the finest contribution I have made to music to date. (and yes, you can all snicker over the bodhran there, but I LOVE it and the activity of playing it, particularly that one. )

I have the advantage of living near one really fine annual dulcimer event. Another plus at it is the attendance of Hobgoblin and Stonyend Harps. It has been my best source for hands on whistle buying for sure.
