Gutted.

Just found out that Julie Fowlis is playing Aberdeen on 26th October but I’ve already bought tickets to see Michael MacIntyre (a comedian) on the same night.

Who? And who?

and

(I chose that image in case there’s any confusion over which is which)

Admittedly if you judged on those pictures alone the choice would be easy. However, he is bloody funny, I’ve already got the tickets and my girlfriend wants to go. But she wouldn’t go see Julie Fowlis.

I saw her a few months back in Vancouver. I don’t know how often she plays Aberdeen, but if it’s infrequent, I’d consider skipping the comedy – it was the first time I’ve seen the hall she played in so packed they were turning people away.

:boggle:

Julie herself has made at least one appearance here on the Whistle forum:

To my ear, Julie’s synthesis of ITM whistle technique with an ear and repertoire drawn from her other instruments and vocal style defines what I hear as the ideal synthesis of modern Scottish whistle style. Truly wonderful. And I’m very stingy with my superlatives.

Hi MTGuru

I like Julie’s playing as well, but for Scottish style whistle playing Annie Grace takes my vote.

Yeah I know… maybe it was my post in that thread which persuaded her to arrange a show here.

I’m sure she’ll be back, most Scottish artists get round to visiting here every now and then.

When I saw the delightful little word - Gutted - I wondered if our American friends would understand it. Been a long time since I heard it. They seem to have gotten the gist of it.

Slan,

“Gutted” is among the least oblique UK-only expressions. I’d even go so far as to call it vivid.
