We still have room for anyone that can make it tonight.
I’m not sure, but I don’t think that lessons and concerts threads should be part of this forum. Am I wrong? Maybe I am.
I’m not saying this just for the heck of it. I’m getting a little sick of these commercial and whistle making postings in the whistle forum, and would at least expect to find a “pure” forum in here. But I’m not trying to play moderator, this I hate more than commercial postings ![]()
Why would you think that the spreading of Celtic culture by a not for profit organizations, or a benefits for someone who worked tirelessly to promote the same culture should be excluded from the site.
We should be willing to help promote and share our cultural experience with anyone willing to listen. People of all ages, nationalities and religion enjoy this music and often need to find a way to peruse it. This particular course is $75.00 for six lessons, by no stretch of the imagination is this a money making proposition even with the type of star talent teaching it. In fact the cost do not cover the expense of putting on the program. That said it is still underutilized and I am trying to do my little part in making sure that those I can reach know of its existence.
I’m sorry if it disturbs you to read this type of post but I’m sure you will agree that there are many more post of less substance and value to ITM on these boards.
When people like those at the Tara Circle put in there time and efforts to promote Celtic Music, Dance, History and language and we do not acknowledge their efforts we only make less of that which we love and I am sure that is not where you are coming from.

I don’t think they should be included from this site. But I do think they don’t belong in this forum: They belong on the main (poststructural) whistle forum. It is not a reflection on the value of work for the promotion of the culture that is being done. Respect for that work I am sure is the reason why you haven’t gotten this response to your posts so far, Wizzer. Thing is though, that the ITM forum was meant more as a resourse for learning and understanding the music by analyzing it and discussing it. That makes any kind of concert or teaching announcements extraneous because they go out of date and concern only the very few of the readers of this forum from the NY area (or whatever other area). And they make the “meat” of this forum harder to see. No one here wants to be a pain about these things, and a certain amount of peripheral discussion can’t be avoided. Still, Az is right: This not really the place for announcements, for-sale posts, whistle recommendations, or the like. I think you should post on the main whistle board, not just because of what this ITM forum was designed to be, but because they will be much more effective: You’ll get ten times the hits than you do here, at least.
Thanks for understanding that this not a reflection on what you announce/post about.
One question;
Why would a guitar query be posted on a Whistle board.
I know many people are using the whistle board as a chat room and if they enjoy it so much the better it keeps the site alive.
That may be the meat of the complaint?
Factual info about music, the tunes, history and where to learn and find it seem to be most appropriate for the ITM board.
From what I understand, this forum is about the music itself. The phrasing, rythm, jigs, reels, etc. It’s about the “meat” that makes irish music. I’m not sure if you can picture what I mean. I’ve got nothing against music lessons, or concerts (non profit or not), but please understand that for some people, this forum is a place where those who love the music, and not the instruments, or concerts, or whatever that goes around it, can share and enjoy their passion.
The whistle forum is mainly for whistles, but many have been posted messages about other instruments, like fiddles, in the past. Also, concert messages are very common in the whistle forum. It’s whistle, but it became more than that. I think we’re just trying to keep this forum what it was supposed to be since the beginning. I have got nothing against your posts, and it’s nothing personnal, I just think that the whistle forum should be the place where you post these kind of posts.
