Mom sent me a paper copy of this article from the Oregonian, Portland Oregon’s daily newspaper:
It is about bassoon players in Oregon who grow their own. The pictures are very nice, in the print version anyway.
BTW, in my experience growing cane is like growing grapes for wine: a different plot of earth gives different qualities to the cane slips. There are also variations from year to year in the same plot.

I have yet to harvest my own home grown cane, and that won’t happen for a year or two from now, but for me, it’s a great way to go. 
I presently have 4 stalks that are becoming invasive and hope to chop one of them as the original one is starting to waiver in strength a bit.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the cane taking over, it is more than likely that they will not survive the winter.
Well I had them indoors last year and they bearly grew at all..
but it seems you’ve got a huge plantation there Joseph.. 
Very good article Nick. I’m particurily interested in the part where they speak about bamboo. This happened to be my first experience with making reeds.
I learned possibly every curse in the english language that day!
