Greatest American: Results are in.

I believe it will be enough to gag most intelligent people everywhere

so - do you think people actually voted on “greatness” or just on name recognition???

Hey Flydude the above link isn’t working! It doesn’t appear to be your fault, the Discovery website seems to have broken links all over the place. It does give the top 100 but when you click on some the names the page appears but no info.

I was surprised that I had actually heard of all those people. I vote for the name recognition approach having been taken.

Top 100? I am getting Top 25. And when I click on the name, I do get an info page for that person. Weird.

Glad to see Lance Armstrong as second

One small step for man…

I don’t think any American is greater than any other.

Eli Whitney didn’t even make the top 100? The man that pretty much invented standard and interchangeable parts?

I think they’re just listed alphabetically at the moment. The “winner” will be decided at the end of the month. It is good to see him on the list though.

We should nominate Martin Milner.

Greater Americans than Dom DeLuise?? Whatever.

Cassius Clay didn’t make the list either.

Oh well, he got his honor in having one of the most famous shopping malls in Metro Manila named for him.

They should have an option for a write-in candidate.
The voting is pretty easy; they have a bunch of toll free numbers, one for each candidate. When you call in, a recording just says “Thank you for voting for candidate 14.” Pretty painless. I was thinking I’d have to listen to some advertising or worse.

I think some of the truly qualified candidates are rolling over in their graves to see the kind of people they’ve been pitted against… Abraham Lincoln is in the same category as Oprah?!

Lower right “Meet all the nominies”

 Thanks!

sigh, John Adams didn’t even make the cut. But he always knew that would be the case.

Bob Hope was English, Einstein was German and Michael Jackson is from Cloud Cuckoo Land.

Slan,
D.

Sitting bull didn’t make it.

I have been wondering about their definition of American. I do not think that we can fully take credit for Cesar Chavez, Nikola Tesla, George Washington, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, and Madonna.

Well, now I’ve seen it all. George W. Bush and Michael Moore on the same list! :boggle:
