I heard an amazing band at a festival in my area this weekend. The band is Brenga Astur, from the Celtic region of Spain, and they play a wonderful blend of traditional Celtic/rock with a touch of Spanish spice. The whistle player, Jorge Mochales, was simply thrilling, playing a B-flat (I think) Susato. If any of you get the chance to hear/see this band, don’t miss the oppurtunity. You will NOT be disappointed!
I saw them at the Potomac Celtic Festival (which, oddly, had another Celtic band from the same area of Spain – it started a similar thread on the Coolboard forum) and quite agree. Unfortunately I only happened to catch two tunes, but I was very impressed.
