Gotta sell it.... where?

Yep, gotta sell that Ormiston flute. Where is the best site to place an ad, thanks.

Here… And on the instrument exchange section of the forum.
I use ebay as well sometimes but I always try here first.

[crossed in cyberspace with Othannen]

Suggest starting right here, a photo or two, a price and info about shipping/insurance, where the instrument is located, etc. might get things rolling. Put a link or parallel in the Chiff & Fipple Used Instruments Exchange Forum.

Another option is the session.org. I have no idea how successful this is for sales but I’ve seen items for sale there with some regularity.

And, of course, eBay lurks but that involves fees and so on.

Just some initial thoughts.

Best wishes.

Steve

Another option, after here, is Pat Jones’s The Irish Flute Store, which will list your flute online with pictures
etc. Good place.

Again, after here, perhaps Eric at the Irish Whistle Shop http://irishwhistleshop.com If I recall correctly, he does free listings for C & F members.

Best wishes.

Steve

Sure, I can post it online for you. Just send me a photo

As a newb I’ve wondered about this. There’s a separate area for sales and yet there’s a ton of flutes being offered here. In most other forums the admins would move those posts to the appropriate subforum.

It’s permitted by the ‘Used Instruments Exchange’ Forum Rules…

Also here one can encourage (or be discouraged by) discussion of the flute for sale.
In the sales forum this is not permitted.

Well, it’s not a “duplicate” if they haven’t ever posted it in the UIE, is it?

No, I suppose not, but it doesn’t say you have to post to the UIE (hmmm, ‘post it here’?), so guess it’s the seller’s loss if they’re permitted to post in two places and only do so in (either) one of them.

Interesting concept; every forum is unique.

The UIE Forum began as an experiment, and I suppose it still is. The purpose is really twofold:

  1. To provide a managed safe haven for straightforward instrument listings without the Sturm und Drang of price policing or other commentary, for users who prefer that option.

  2. To provide a centralized location for readers of all our forums, to reduce cross-posting to multiple forums.

We (Dale and the Mods) think it serves both those needs pretty well.

Separating all instrument listings into separate sub-forums is not necessarily a bad idea. But managing a separate sub-forum for each of our 7 instrument forums is not something we really care to do (yet). And forcing all listings to a single forum might be too much, with approximately 33% of Chiffboard posts involving listings of various kinds.

So the current setup represents a working compromise, at least for now.

Your reply makes no sense to me. If you’ve got a sales area all sales should be there.

Secondly “Sturm und Drang” is “Storm and Drive”??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturm_und_Drang

OK, I believe you.

Something like Tempestuousness and Impetuousness (Impetuosity) might be a fair approximation of the term.

Here we go, gang. Wiki ‘Sturm und Drang.’

‘Sturm und Drang (German pronunciation: [ˈʃtʊʁm ʊnt ˈdʁaŋ], literally “Storm and Drive”, “Storm and Urge”, though conventionally translated as “Storm and Stress”)[1] is a proto-Romantic movement in German literature and music taking place from the late 1760s through the early 1780s, in which individual subjectivity and, in particular, extremes of emotion were given free expression in reaction to the perceived constraints of rationalism imposed by the Enlightenment and associated aesthetic movements. The period is named for Friedrich Maximilian Klinger’s play Sturm und Drang, which was first performed by Abel Seyler’s famed theatrical company in 1777.’
