My wife and I will be moving to the Little Rock area for my new job; I was wondering if there are any C&F folks there? If so we’d love to meet you.

James,
Shouldn’t there be a “Hey Y’all!” in your post?
Congratulations on the new job! Being in KC, I’m no help for LR based chiffers.
So, if you don’t mind sharing, you going to be doing something similar to before or are you off in a new direction work-wise?
Best,
Eric
James, That’s WONDERFUL news! So happy to hear things worked out!
Your band will miss you ![]()
When are you arriving there?
Mary
I’ll be starting a week from Monday. We are scrambling to find a place and get moved now–Shannon broke her wrist early this week but is hanging in there. She’s a tough lady.
I am still in I.T.; my new job title is Systems Engineer and it involves Linux / UNIX administration.
–James
Congratulations, James.
That’s welcome news, indeed.
Best wishes,
Jerry
Congratulations James! I’m really happy for you and Shannon… I hope you’ll both have much happiness ahead!! Healing energies to Shannon. ![]()
Love and blessings,
Adara
(formerly Andrea, aderyn_du)
Why the name change, Adara/Andrea/Aderyn_du?
Answered privately so as not to run off with James’ thread.
Best,
Adara
James & Shannon, good luck in Little Rock! Congratulations on the new job.
Cara
Congratulations on the new job. I hope all goes great. I have only been to LR once and it did not look like the bastion of Irish music.
Ron
Great news, James! Congratulations. ![]()

Well, no…but we did manage to get a lively little weekly session going in Texarkana, which is even worse…so who knows? ![]()
I have read that there is already at least one established session going there. Also there is an active filk community there; we already know some of those folks from interactions online.
And there are mountains. Having grown up in the flats, I love the moutains! ![]()
My thanks to all for the kind thoughts, prayers, and words of encouragement during the last 2 months. They helped; or, more precisely, perhaps, you helped. ![]()

Congratulations, Jim!!! ![]()

That’s great news about the job, James, Congratulations! Those pictures look nice. I’ll bet y’all’ll love the south.
Dude, you are moving to my old crib. Actually, I grew up in Benton, which is 20 minutes down the highway, between Little Rock and Hot Springs. My mother and brother still live there. I went to college in Conway. Met and courted Mrs. Undisputed there.
We’ll get together one day when I’m back home.
Little Rock is surprisingly cosmopolitan. I went to college 1.5 hours away in Batesville (Lyon College). Batesville being small (and in a dry county) I spent a fair bit of time in Little Rock.
The Little Rock Folk Club brings a lot of great acts to the city and sometimes even organizes bus trips to Memphis if the performers don’t come to LR. The folk scene is still quite small and undeveloped in regards to local musicians so you probably won’t lay aside your need for exterior resources (CDs, Scoiltrad, etc.).
I still have friends that live in LR and Conway. A friend of mine who is now in the Presbyterian ministry grew up right near the Benton/Bryant border. I haven’t been back for a few years. I may make it down for an alumni gathering early this October.
Cheers,
Aaron
Hey! I was out of town this weekend and just saw this thread. I grew up in Little Rock and am now living in Conway. The Arkansas Celtic Music Society organizes several regular sessions throughout the month. I usually hit one or two a month. There are about 4 sessions in Little Rock and 2 in Hot Springs, as well as Fayetteville and Fort Smith. Here is the website:
http://celticmusiclive.com/index.html
PM me if you need directions to any of the session sites. I hope to see you there–I would love to meet another C&F person!
I wish you and your wife the best in your move.
Jennifer
Thanks a bundle for that link, Jen!

I could make the Fayetteville session in slightly over an hour of driving time. Of course, one would have to wonder about the speed of a session fueled by espresso! ![]()
While it is tragic that you will be even farther from Texas
it’s great about your new job. ![]()
However, those are not mountains. I used to think we had mountains in Texas, till some o’ them there Coloradans started makin’ fun o’ me. ![]()
