See Monty Python’s The Life of Brian. At its time of release in the late 1970’s, it was banned in Scotland so it may be hard to get hold of. Cheesemakers comes from an apocryphal (hilarious) retelling of the sermon on the mount.

Bless’ed be the cheesemakers… Boy, that was a great one!
What I particularly remember from that scene is a bystander (prefiguring generations of theologians) who condescendingly explains that “actually he broadly means anyone engaged in the dairy industry”. Apart from the questionable taste of the closing scene, the whole film can be interpreted not as blasphemous parody, but as a critique of what institutionalised religion has done to the simple messages of Christ. But having done my little bit to spread some cheese, I hope that now I haven’t just turned this thread into a religion flame war.
So this seems like as good a time as any for me to wish cheese and herbs to men of good will (where the term “men” obviously embraces the female).
Thanks lads.
I’ve actually seen the film, but unfortuneately I’ve since packed so much information into my brain that some things have fallen out of my ear…details of the Life of Brian cheesemakers being one of them!!
Have a good festive season where’er ye may be
