Good ITM 101 site?

ok, I know I can google with the best of em, but wondering if you lads have a site that would explain to the neophyte the rudiments of ITM…it’s basic structure(s), etc with examples of perhaps some of the more common(preferably pipe-able tunes)?

thanks…and happy new year!

I found this book to be quite interesting and helpful:

http://www.amazon.com/Focus-Irish-Traditional-Music-World/dp/0415991471/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1293917719&sr=8-1

It comes with a CD that has relevant sample tunes discussed throughout the text.

From a strictly piping-centric perspective I would urge you read an excellent essay with mp3 and transcriptions by Pat Mitchell, Rhythm and Structure in Irish Dance Music available for download from the http://www.seanreidsociety.org/ found in Volumes I and II as Parts I and II.

good start: thanks lads..

Not on line, I would add a book:Music In Ireland; Experiencing Music,
Expressing Culture
,Oxford University Press. With it’s accompanying CD is an excellent snapshot of ITM circa 2004. It is at once a survey of Irish Musical forms, as well as a survey of many notable performers, with interviews with the likes of Junior Crehan, Kevin Crawford, and Len Graham and his wife, Padraigin Ni Uallachain. It is available through Amazon.
