Hello all,
I’ll be in Chicago Easter weekend – was wondering where the best places are for Irish music?
Thanks,
Judith Redding

The Abbey Pub!
Try one of these:
The Hidden Shamrock, 2723 N. Halsted, 3PM-6PM session. Fairly democratic, mid-tempo, but be prepared to play a lot of (uilleann) pipe tunes.
Tommy Nevin’s Pub, corner of Lake and Sherman in Evanston, ~2:30-5:30ish. If you’re coming from downtown, take the Red Line up to Howard Street, transfer to the Purple line at Howard, and take the Purple north to Dempster. Nevin’s is a block or two north of the Dempster stop. The sesiun is hosted by John Williams and sometimes co-hosted by Kieran O’Hare. Very advanced, be prepared to sit and stare a lot if you don’t know the tunes.
Chief O’Neill’s, which is on Elston Avenue just south of Addison. 3PM-6PM session not for beginners or the faint of heart.
and of course,
The Abbey Pub 9-Midnight. Usually hosted by John Daley, a fine fiddler from Dublin.
These are all in safe neighborhoods, although it’s tricky to get a cab home from the Abbey late on a Sunday night.
Oh, and if you’re still around Monday night, get over to Martyrs’ Pub, 3855 N. Lincoln. Live irish music 9:30-midnight. Good pizza, too.
