Charlene and I are going on a short cruise next week from NYC to Halifax NS ( an on board Podiatry conference makes it a business trip!).
We’ll only be in Halifax for one day, but I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions for must-see things. Thanks.

Haven’t been there in a long time Paul, and when we went we spent most of our time in the wilder parts (Cape Bretton Island, etc.). We did spend one day in Halifax at the seaport mostly. There was a well-known retsaurant there, Fat Franks, that we thought was much over-rated. Enjoy.

There’s lots to do in Halifax.
Check to see if the famous Bluenose is in town, the ship sails twice daily, & is open to the public.
The down town, waterfount, & Spring Graden Road area, are great for tourist’s, (lots of shops, food & pubs)… Also there is the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site (the orginal settlement & fort).
They are all with-in walking distance.
If you want to drive there is Peggey’s Cove (popular area), less than one hr drive down the coast.
Halifax International Busker Festival is on Aug 7, 2003 - Aug 17, 2003.
This will be on the waterfrount & downtown…
Paul - Can’t remember how far Luniden (I think that’s the name of the town) is, but there’s an awesome maritime museum and other shops there, with Nordic artifacts and the like.

If you are talking about “Lunenburg”, it’s about 1 hr away.

All of whistle man’s suggestions are good, I would also add that there is a nice nautical museum on the Halifax waterfront, with special titanic exhibits. Also there is a Pub called “the old triangle” and it is supposed to be the place for Celtic music, which is one street up from the waterfront, if I‘m not mistaken. I would also suggest seeing the public guardians, which are just up on Springgarden rd, also with in walking distance from the waterfront. 
As for as tours around the city, there are many that will show you around, the most exciting I would say is the harbour hopper, which finds you on a world wind tore of most of the sites around Halifax, onboard an amphibious vehicle, which includes some aquatic sites. The cost is a little dear, being around $20 CND last time I checked.
Also if it tickles you fancy, you can have a college student pull you about in a rickshaw, although I don’t think any do tours. 
There is a lot to see and do, http://www.halifaxinfo.com/ may give you a chance to look around before you get there.
Unfortunately I am no longer in the Halifax area, but out near Windsor, about an hour away, but, I think this is the only other person I’ve seen from NS on the board, Hi Whistle man!

Brewer Paul - You might want to visit Folk-lore music shop just off Spring Garden Road. They are the only shop in town that carries low whistles (that I am aware of). They don’t stock any higher end whistles…
