I’ll be going with a few friends this weekend. Any suggestions on what to bring for entertainment? I thought guitar would be a good idea, but would be such a hassle to carry around. My brother is bringing a harmonica. Maybe some whiskey, a pack a cards. Any other ideas?
Anyway, we always bring a guitar and … whistles. I gauge what seems right noise-wise at the campground and play if it seems okay. Harmonica and geetar are a bit more acceptable. I finally decided to teach myself DADGAD chord forms on a camping trip. A good place to try something like that. And, since my beer and whisky consumption always goes way up on camping trips (what else is there to do beside roast s’mores and watch bugs die in the bug candle), it all sounds rilly-rilly good.
get yourself to a store that sell fireplace supplies. they sell stuff in a tube that when sprinkled over the fire causes the fire to change colors and stuff. someone at our camp trips always has that.
Yeah, watching bugs fry in the fire…the memories that brings back. I like to bring a couple field guides, too, birds and plants. Handy if the food runs out.
Remind me never to give you a bottle of Banana oil.
It is also used as a solvent for some varnishes and nitrocellulose lacquers, as well as being a honey bee pheromone and can be used to attract large groups of honeybees to a small area.
Feeding others in your party plain old bananas will accomplish the same thing.
It draws the available mosquitoes to them as well.
I’ve been told mosquitoes are drawn to the color blue but repulsed by the color red.
I might have been considered expendable at the time when told that.
As for camping I have always like to bring topographical maps. Even if you are at a normal car camping site, I find them to be nice souvenirs if you write on them information about trails, and things that you have identified. It also gives you some orienteering practice.
DEET works fine, but watch to not get it on certain kinds of plastics. It creates one of the worst smells I have ever experienced. I kept thinking I had been hit by a seagull from above except I was inland and there was no visible goo..
I’ll soon be going camping as well, over the Memorial Day weekend. I plan on bringing some whistles (a friend is bringing his geetar), some playing cards, a camera, a fishing pole, a book, a sketch pad, and probaby several other things that I haven’t thought of yet.
