GNIPC Tionol early-registration deadline looms

The early registration (an incredibly-low $45.00 US!) for the GNIPC tionol on May 20/21 is Monday May 15. After that the fee increases to a still-reasonable $55.00.

There’s still time to get your registration in to GNIPC HQ!

…except that David P guy kept falling asleep while playing..

Just to let y’all know, I will be running a reedmaking workshop on Saturday and Sunday from one-ish to three-ish (although this isn’t set in stone yet to the best of my knowledge), so bring your curious and daring minds… and let’s take a walk on the DARK SIDE. :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

What a great weekend!

Thanks to Tom and all the gang for everything. I had a blast and will sleep well for the rest of the week… please God! Some of the nicest people you could ever wish to play music with.

Patrick.

It was great having Patrick and Jerry as our teachers, and I liked the differences of approach. For me, Jerry was all about being open to the broad field of variation possibilities available (with adherence to the rhythm as the one non-negotiable, as well as the caution that simplicity is better than too many bells and whistles going on), and Patrick was all about the brass tacks: that is, clarity of execution born of honest practice as the necessary technical element of good pipering. As I said to Patrick, “I have much housecleaning to do!”

In Pat’s classes we’d do the “circle of death”, as we humorously called it: he’d do an ornament or phrase, and we’d try to execute the same in turn according to our abilities, and he’d give his help according to each case. A good experience for me.

I have to say, though, that every time my turn came up, Patrick would look at me and say, “Nano?”

That was somehow unnerving every time.

Great weekend and a great concert. Was sorry to have missed Saturday though Joe’s shaggy dog tale involving a talking frog, golf and a 14-year old girl at the party Saturday felt like it lasted all day.

OK, must… go… practise…

A stellar weekend indeed. Many thanks to all who made it possible, especially Tom & Adele and Jerry O’Sullivan (honorable mentions to D’Arcy, JES, Pat Cannady and Karen Cook).

Sleepily,

NoE

I don’t see our old companero Edmund Tunney in the picture! I would have thought he’d be right in the middle of any partying over there…

J.

Justine, Edmund Tunney was not there this year, but he was in St. Louis for the Tionol in April!

We had a great time at all the events, what great energy there was. Tom and Adele, thanks for all the hospitality, the after Tionol events were marvelous! The workshops, concert and sessions were worth the trip to beautiful Minnesota!

Thanks for the tunes, company, jokes and craic..

Karen and Patrick
