Glens Falls Fife

Anyone have any experience with these folks:

http://www.glensfallsfife.com/

I’m posting partly out of curiosity about fifes, partly because they’re pretty nearby, so they certainly fall into the Buy Local First category.

I can but I assume you would like a less biased opinion. I am the owner of Glens Falls Fife. If you have any questions for me I’d be happy to answer them.

Matt

Whoa! Small world, eh?

BTW, I could get “Saratoga” to load, but not actually play.

It is indeed!

That your fifes are not faithful reproductions is just fine.

Innovation can be a good thing!

However, for some reason I can’t get the “Saratoga” clip to play.

I’m with you on that, but my local source has been Ralph, and now Walt, Sweet.

Within the US, however, I’ve more recently become a Casey Burns fan, too.

I also have great things to say about Rob Forbes, and his Delrin flutes!

Right…I don’t make reproductions like Peeler’s (who does a darn fine job at that), but rather use those as a basis for what I want to do, and that makes me happy.

Don’t feel bad about the Saratoga clip…I can’t get it to work either. It must be something in the uploading. I can make fifes better than websites.

Anyway, welcome aboard!

the file Saratoga_second_movement.mp3 is in a subdirectory named uploads isn’t it?

Wow…I don’t know. If you’re referring to where on my CP it is, it is in a subfolder named Glens Falls Fife. Like I said…fife good, computers bad.

Ha, flushed out another flutemaker!

Glad you’re here, Matt. Any idea yet how you’ll be pricing your standard models? Will you be exhibiting your fifes at any local fife & drum or historical events this fall?

The difficulty with the sound aside, your website is both attractive and helpful, I thought.

Thanks for the warm welcome! All models will run about the same, about $60. With the exception of those made from hard maple, hickory, etc. The ones I make from grenadilla will run about $90 as it’s really hard for me to get.

I plan on being at the Moodus muster in October. I’ve been and will go again to Crown Point and Fort Ticonderoga gatherings.

Thanks for the compliment on the website. Having only 5 pages I was hoping not to cram too much stuff on there and have people shaking their heads..thinking..“what is this?”.
