I just received in the mail today a very welcome surprise, some excellent CD’s from Dan Compton at www.glencottagemusic.com
These are Session Class CDs played by fiddler and guitarist Dan Compton. They are tunes arranged as sets. The tunes are played first as a set, up to what I would consider relaxed session speed. Then each tune is given its own track, and played through singly and slowly, for learning by ear.
There are about 14 or so Session Class CD’s, each crammed with choice trad tune sets, nicely played. The site has a way to get in touch with Dan and he will e-mail you a list of the tunes on each CD. Really, I don’t see how a person wouldn’t want all of 'em.
I am no reviewer, but I have to say, I am REALLY IMPRESSED with these CD’s. There is no accompanying tune book, this is truely meant as an aural learning experience. So nice!
