They gave a great show and played session with us afterwards…Turlach Boylan is a great player and it was a real pleasure to enjoy his playing, meet him, and play tunes with him and with Mike Dugger and Kelly Winter.
Turlach has the neatest old ebonite flute; the years have partially bleached parts of it, making it a very striking coloration. I didn’t realize it was ebonite until I asked him about it; the appearance is more like an exotic wood with a very pronounced grain.
They are extremely nice and it was a true honor to meet them and play with them.
Mike & Turloch are super nice. I play in session regularly with Mike, and Turloch has sat in with us once…
I’d love to give his old flute a try, but I didn’t have the nerve to ask. He played on my M&E and gave it a thumbs up…somehow, it sounded much better than when I play it.
As a woman who was recently blessed to hear not one but three of those esteemed fellows – Tommy, Turlach, and Kevin – all in the space of one drizzly/perfect Kentucky weekend, I can only say WOW! Dont miss any of them, anywhere, ever!
You guys were great. And best to Turlach, as always.
BTW, that’s a Chappell from the 20s, as I recall???
Cool coincidence. I had just stumbled upon these folks in a search. I was trying to figure out how to make something of Lark in the Morning, which I can play along with but couldn’t figure out how to put the life into. They had an MP3 on their website that will help.
