If you like to play chess, bridge or a musical instrument, do not let old age stop you. A new study, conducted over two decades, concludes that regular exercise - the kind that challenges the mind - appears to ward off dementia.
It’s a nice thought. I guess I believe it, since there are studies (87% of people will believe something that has statistics to back it up ). But the chess-playing folks, and the musicians, and the like, that I know, seem no less demented than the other people I know (present company excepted).
I (literally) cut the article out of the paper yesterday to read when I had more time…and now I can’t find it. I know it’s here somewhere. True story, no kidding.
Hmmm… I really, really hope this is true, but my grandfather was a Harvard educated physicist who designed and developed microprocessors for Boeing, NASA, and IBM , spent his days reading about blackholes, the phyics of the space-time continuum and listening to classical music and jazz. He developed alzheimers, which he fought for 4 years until he died.
Still, it’s definately worth a shot!
Best,
Chris
