What is the best way to get an Overton, directly through the makers, or through a store?
If in stock it only takes a few days from Song of the Sea (songsea.com). But look below at the - Whistles/flutes FOR SALE!-post. Jens has one for sale. I do not know how long from the maker.
To buy direct, contact Brigitte or Colin Goldie (link on main page). It just depends. They might have one or (more likely) have a cancellation and surprise you. I got amazingly lucky when I asked about a low D in a color and they just happened to have an almost-ready experimental low D in woodtone that no one had called for. More likely, though, you’d have to get on the waiting list and it could take a few months.
Doesn’t hurt to ask.
I prefer going through Colin and Brigitte as well, and have done so twice already. Although there is a waiting list involved, you get to tell them about your favored qualities in a whistle and they will custom it accordingly.
I am anxiously awaiting my first Overton that I ordered directly from Colin and Brigitte. It was ready several months sooner
than I expected. They are absolutely incredable to work with.
Good Luck
