Generations redesigned by Brian Howard?

According Lark in the Morning’s Generation page, http://larkinam.com/GenerationWhistles.html -

“These whistle [sic] have undergone a major redesign by Brian Howard and play better than ever.”

This is surprising news, and I can find nothing about it here on the whistle forum. Does anybody know anything about it? Are Generations different lately?

I’ve posted before about how and why it’s difficult to get information about Generation whistles from the Generation folks. The Elves of Oswestry, hollow tree stumps, etc.

But no … Unless this is something very recent, the last redesign I think any of us are aware of was in the early/mid 1980s, and is still the current design.

I suppose a query to Brian Howard or Mickey Zeckley (Lark) might sort this ad copy. There’s only one mention of Gens on the Howard Music website, and it’s not about this.

I can find nothing about it here on the whistle forum.

I remember mention here of something along those lines however. Maybe six seven-ish years ago. At the time the re-design was to take place in stages, Bflat one of the first to go into production. I must admit that I haven’t kept a close eye on it but when I looked I didn’t see signs of anything changing during the time since it was mentioned.

Mickey sold Lark a number of years ago, didn’t he?

Yes, and then he bought it back more recently, if I’m not mistaken.

According to my sources, Brian has indeed been engaged in re-tooling the worn-out generation injection dies.
As mentioned - the Bb was the first cab off the rank .. that was a few years ago ..

I presume the work continues, but you must understand that a run of injection moulding is a commercial run.
The product of that may take years to flush through the pipe.

Whistles are not what you would call a fast moving consumer good (FMCG) and stocks in retail outlets will consist of every whistle that got tried and .. not bought .. not a good marketing ploy.

I get the impression that Brian was being faithful to the generation design .. so when the bad ju-ju flushes out with all the unsellable remnants, we might see a resurgence of the legend.

Perhaps there will be an increase of the stat on magic Generation whistles - and less of the soul-destroying evil ones.

Here’s hoping.

Then again .. evil has a function. We just don’t like to admit it

Feadogs are still nice .. until the evil creeps in with the inevitable entropy of moving parts.

.. the art of making an evil whistle good .. is worth learning. There are always angels in the ugliness.
That’s the nature of chaos - there are no true boundaries.

Until then, 6 in 100 Gens are good, and 6 are bad, one is magic and one is evil - the rest are ordinary. .. All can be played.

The whistle is only half the story.

“You will here these whistles on 1000’s of traditional Irish recordings.”

This is what caught my attention.

You’d make a good editor, Mack! When I read to my son at night, the typos and other errors (like the author using the wrong character’s name - it happens) seem to jump off the page for me.
