Generation Bb

Hey Guys,

I just got my first Generation Bb nickel in yesterday. The sound is really, really good and I love the overall sound and feel of the instrument.

Just thought I would share. Thanks to those who recommended it to me.

I love my Generation Bb, one of my favorite whistles.

Nice, Bloomfield! I love Johnny Cope - both the song and the extended hornpipe (another tune of Scots origin that has firmly taken up residence in ITM).

Me too (love Gen Bb thing): here are a couple of jigs I’ve been playing for donkey’s years on my old (untweaked) Generation Bb - could anyone wish for a better sounding whistle? The tunes are The Dancing Master and The Jolly Old Man - O’Neill’s 1001 #183 and #142 respectively. The Dancing Master is transposed to E Dorian (fingering) from the original A Dorian and The Jolly Old Man is also known as Bung Your Eye or The Brisk Young Lads, though those versions seem to have a slightly different B music.

EDIT: My Gen Bb is a 30-odd years old one, red-top brass with all the lacquer scrubbed off (by its original owner who gave it to me after attacking it with toothpaste and brush!).

The Generation Bb is also one of my favourite whistles esp the nickel version. The Gen Eb is another super whistle.

I’ve got a Generation Bb in brass and I really like it. Bloomfield that was very cool .

Thanks, it’s a really old clip…

Well, that makes clear which side of the Alabama/Florida line you are one. But your English flag is a bit crooked.

I think I have a lousy Gen Bb in an old whistle case somewhere. It’s a pretty bad one. I’ll have to get it out and see if I can recall why…

I would bet a Jerry Freeman one of these would
be really something.

Funny, I was just wondering if Jerry tweaks Bb Gens.

I tweeked my own and I am very pleased with it

My Generation Bb is a great, cheapie that will always have a place in my herd of whistles.

Good man.

Hey, Neo, congratulations on a great whistle.

I have two gen Bb’s, a brass and a nickel. The former was worthless in my hands. I think I might have used it to stake a tomato plant or something. The nickel is nice enough after I tweaked it a bit, but I just could never make it sing. I seldom play it anymore.

Different strokes, and all that…

Tom

yes jerry does sell gen Bbs

Wyobadger you just didn’t find a good one. The good ones are excellent!

This is on a new brass Bb Gen

Very nice playing, dude!

that is probably my favorite whistle, if not then it is up there.

Thanks Bothrops for your comment!

Mine (brass red top) has been a favorite for 30 years! Mellow, easy to reach, sweet, just a lovely pitch and a lovely whistle.

Nice one Bloomie! And Bothrops! And Jem!
