Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Comet , Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Rudolph:
all seem to strongly suggest that ‘Vixen’ is the sole female on the team.
so,
How did she get this spot?
Is she a token female?
Did she really, honestly EARN this position through talent, hard work, and luck?
Is there a ‘glass ceiling’ at the North pole?
Furthermore, is ‘Prancer’s’ gender a definite thing? Is he/she irrevocably male, or female? OR transgender?
AND
‘Cupid’ suggests that cherubic figure often associated with Valentines Day:
is Cupid even pubescent? Is there a ‘Venus’ reindeer Santa keeps locked up somewhere?
I need some answers here, people!
She wasn’t afraid to stop and ask for directions.
No, I think they’re pairs.
Male:…Female:
Dasher…Dancer
Comet…Prancer
Cupid…Vixen
Donner…Blitzen
It’s just that Clement C. Moore had to arrange the names to work in the verse.

On what is probably the hottest day of the year so far..here in England.
Where and what does the urgency come from about who was the second fastest reindeer…
There is a joke there somewhere..

It’s my understanding that, contrary to her name’s sake, Vixen is rather … um … butch. Either that or it’s just beard envy among the rest of them.

Maybe some of these deer had lifestyles and the names are in the right order.

Both sexes grow antlers,[3] which (in the Scandinavian variety) for old males fall off in December, for young males in the early spring, and for females, summer.
Hmmm…

It seems so.
The “official” home of Santa Claus is a remote place known as Korvatunturi, as everybody knows.

Didn’t the first printing actually say “Blixem”?
Haven’t you guys seen the animation: “Robbie the Reindeer”?
You need to.
That is excellent to know. I will refer to them by their correct, original names henceforth.
But Blixem is a girl.
Donder & Bliksem would be the correct spelling if you care to go the whole way on it.

nice graphic.
He’s a few deer short.
Although I like Emmline’s “pairs” idea: I just cant see Comet + Prancer as a couple. All the others seem happy together.
but with a name like “Vixen”, djm, are you really ready to defend the idea she’s butch? I would put ‘Blixem’ + ‘Prancer’ together.
