If anyone’s in the market for a new delrin flute, Garry somers is yer man.
I did a little review on the Tradconnect website a few days ago after having bought his Pratten style, and couldn’t be happier! there’s a little clip of me playing a couple of jigs, but bear in mind that was on the day after I had received it, so i hadn’t yet whipped my embouchure into shape. It has a good strong tone as reedy or as sweet as you like. I’m thinking of ordering his R n’ R next.
Direct link anyone? I’m too lazy to search for it ![]()
I’m in a good mood today Lorenzo ![]()

I thought I’d take a chance and buy one of Garry’s delrin flutes, at the excellent price of £230 odd. I have to say it’s a beautiful instrument, extremely well made and finished, and now that I’ve got used to the embouchure I can make it honk!
Gary is an Irishman living in Brazil, and as far as i know comparatively new to flute-making, but if this flute is anything to go by he’s going to have a full order book!
He makes 3 different models- I went for his Pratten style, which won’t be for everyone as the toneholes are very big, to give it that classic Pratten volume, but already after a couple of days I love it!
You can get his flutes from either the irishflutestore or contact him direct, you won’t be disappointed.
Just to say that I have no connection with Garry at all, I just thought I’d give him a mention.

Thanks, what about the sound clip? ![]()
I’m not that PC savvy, to transfer it from the Trad connect site You’ll have to join!!
Harry
I’d like to second the positive opinion on the Somers flutes, I have the small bore, medium hole, R&R and love it! Half-holing the G# is kinda hit and miss for me, but that hopefully should get better with practice. Wish I could write more of a review, but I’m not qualified to as I still have alot of things to work on where irish style is concerned.
See if this works for the sound file:

Thanks, nice clip.
Haven’t listened yet, Harry. I’ll give it a go later, between getting home and going out to the sesh. You coming to it this evening? ![]()
So Harry’s not where his profile says? Cambridge- Forest of Dean is not sessionable logistics!
With flute? Harry, beware of Rudall-touting fiddlers!
I have a bike…
Sounds very good. Swell playing.
And an updated location… so the bike is not to commute from Fens to Forest but to handily evade aforesaid (would-be multi-instru)mentalist? Trouble is, he’s got one (or two) too!
