Our seven year old daughter started learning to ride horses this summer, and along the way she’s gotten quite taken up with the Chieftain’s album “Ballad of the Irish Horse.” She’s in riding camp right now, and we have to play the CD both to and from the stables.
Her favorite track on the album is Kevin Conneff singing Galway Races. She’s working at learning the words, playing it over and over if she’s got the CD herself.
In Conneff’s version, rather than the chorus “With me whack fol the do fol the diddley idle ay” he sings a line in Irish. Does anyone know the chorus Conneff is using, and the correct pronounciation?
My favorite horse racing song is “Bottle of Smoke” from the Pogues.
