I will have a Gallagher D chanter coming in the next 2 to 3 months. The question I have is, has anyone used another maker’s bag to connect to a Gallagher chanter and had any problems? I expect I may possibly have to adjust the bag connector or chanter with teflon tape for fit.
It all depends on the size of the chanter-stock that is already in the bag versus the size of Seth’s windcap in-pipe. If the receiving cup/stock is too large for Seth’s chanter, you’ll have to add waxed-thread (or unwaxed) around the inlet-pipe on the windcap. PTFE tape would work, but I’d go with the thread (or if you know how to do it, cork).
If the chanter stock is too small, you will either have to have the stock enlarged to have Seth’s pipe fit (the easier route) or come up with some kind of adapter fitting (complex and annoying in the long run).
Another option, if you have money, is to buy (or make)a new bag, have a friend turn you a chanter-stock that fits Seth’s chanter and have them turn a blowpipe stock that matches the one on your other bag so you can use the same bellows.
Dionys… you beat me to it…
Your pipe should come with waxed hemp on the fitting that goes into the bag. Small changes are normal. Usually unwinding it and re-wrapping it differently (slight taper toward the end is one suggestion) is all you should need.
If you are using an O’Grady bag, you will have to remove some of the hemp wrap as Gallagher’s tubing is slightly larger (than O’Grady’s) in diameter.
