In a meaningless quest to find out the material Tony Dixon’s conical flutes are made of (acetal BTW), I just learned he is now making a 4 piece model flute - apparently the same as his three piece but with a vented foot section like on a Seery.
Tony gave me permission to post about his new flute here on C&F. I’m not sure about price, but our very own Blayne Chastain of Whistle and Drum is apparently the one to prod Tony into making this new option for his standard flute model.
I have absolutely no affiliation with Tony, and I’m just posting to let folks know about Tony’s latest flute.

Hey guys… Yep, Tony sent me the new headjoint with tuning slide to check out… Very nice… This model will probably be called the “trad” model. It will esentially have the look & feel of a traditional Irish flute with the long foot…
Tony has also remarked at how the vent holes affect the octave transition… Apparently easier… I’m looking forward to playing the first one!
This flute will have the option of silver rings (or silver in color like stainless, etc…) so that it will look more trad… I kinda like the brass on black look though too!
Yep, I’ve been keeping my mouth shut for a while… But now that Tony has the first generation off the drawing board, it shouldn’t be long until we start carrying them!
Blayne, I see that Tony has model DX031, the model with the vented foot on his website. It’s still a three piece flute, but the foot section is longer and has the vent holes.
Are you planning on carrying this flute? I’m putting one of Tony’s flutes on my Christmas list.
I have been waiting for this he told me he woukld do this when I asked him about a keyed model he said he would put a tuning slide then later vent the foot then he would try keys.
