It’s an interesting concept. There’s a lot of info about the project and the effort it took to achieve the desired result.
Most likely I am jaded by living in the world of CGI, but for all the trouble he went to, my enthusiasm for the finished product is dampened by the all the protective coverage he’s wearing…especially his hands. The sparkler effect is weird and doesn’t quite fit.
It’s actually more interesting to read about what he did, than to see the end result. (Probably could create a more compelling image by photoshopping.)
Well, actually, I really like the rays shooting out of his foot.
Makes me think of “Running Man” movie.

A 4-inch coil attached to a boom placed on the roof of a car will create the spectacle you see above. The designer, Australia’s own Peter Terren, calls the ring of electricity the Eye of Sauron, after the character in the Lord of the Rings.

I was interested to see your critique which is a sensible one among many hundred and is a refreshing change from the usual “that’s shocking” response.
I agree the sparkler is out of place, as are the tea candles and fluoro tubes in a pentagram in other photos on that page. I was simply seeking to enhance the effect and create variations. It was a bit last minute really and difficult for me to coordinate due to the constraints of the suit.
I simply chose what I thought was best at the time.
As you may know, I am anti-photoshopping. Many of my images are other-wordly and quite unique and to confuse the issue with artificiality would blur the whole issue and devalue the effort gone into some of the more complicated photos like this one. Having said that, it is difficult to get convincing CGI to emulate the chaotic nature and lighting of actual sparks.
And the protective covering. My original concept called for a more pure nude approach with a covering of copper foil but the latter just didn’t mould well and I am a little less shall I say, buff when conpared to Rodin’s original.
And I like the sparks from the foot best too.
The video of the effect as shown on national TV in a 3 minute segment is the second video down on my index page. I don’t think they captured the effect well with their video equivalent of photoshopping.

You should not be embarrassed by that. Few people can offer a good technical response (and I probably know a lot of them). Your post was a sensible critique that fitted well with my sentiments.
I used to drop in on a lot of forums but I have been on about 120 websites and forums in that month so it’s not really feasible to get involved in many discussions particularly when there is a lot of non-internet media happenning.
I am in the conceptual phase of a big new project, which might get me some income from all this and get me overseas. Of course if I told you I would have to kill you… Look out for it in 6 months though.
I’ve been captivated by Tesla since I gave my dad-who worked with electricity his whole life in more mundane situations- a present of a biography of Tesla. I read it when he finished and was amazed at the man. I think Tesla himself would have been pleased to see your work.
This is very interesting. I’d never even heard of Tesla (unless you’re talking about the rock band…) until today. Very cool
I just have to say that I really like it! I’ve seen some cool demonstration with a Tesla coil, but I’ve never seen one quite like that. Very creative
