I’ve had an enquirey outside of e-bay to buy the pipes, but it seems a little fishy to me. Has anyone had a similar experience? Technically, if no-one has been before the end of the auction, I could take the pipes off the auction to sell them outwith ebay, although I’m a little nervous to do that… due to the writing style of one enquirer :
Hello,
I am interested in buying the item that you are selling and i will like to know the present condition and the last price they are willing to sell…
So I wrote back…slightly suspiciously:
Hello,
Which item are you interested in?
All details can be seen on the webpage, but if you need any specific details, please get in touch.
Best wishes,
Calum
Then I explained all the basic details, which are already on the page, and clearly explained. Then he replies:
Thanks for the mail, i want you to know that i also want to go
through ebay but i have problem with my ebay account, and i also don’t
have time for the ebay stuff, so all you need to proceed with this
transaction is to get back to me with total amount of it and your
paypal email address or your bank detail, so that i can proceed with
the payment as soon as you get back to me with the details.
Thanks and i await you fast response
I then wrote a slightly annoyed e-mail, stating my dissatisfaction, with people trying to con ebay users, but also covering myself in case I’d made a mis-judgment, by saying that ‘one can’t be too careful these days…’
It turns out now, that all he wants is my paypal email (which was the one I was using). So it seems quite fine, I gave it to him. But I then stated that I will not send the pipes until the funds have cleared OUT of paypal, and into my bank. I said I won’t send the pipes until the money is cleared, and if the paypal funds are held until the pipes are delivered - I won’t send the pipes at all. (THis covers me incase he reverses the paypal pay order, and does a runner with the pipes).
Am I being a little too paranoid here, or am I cautious with reason? The potential buyer says he is from the USA, but his writing style, and the fact that he refers to the pipes as ‘an item’ is a bit fishy. No questions about the pipes, or reeds or anything. I asked him to verify the fact that we has genuinly interested by writing a little about some pipers, or recordings, or something to let me know he is genuine.
Opinions guys…
Yours, cautiously,
Calum
