FS Three flutes (good for learners)

I have an M&E coming in the mail to use as my second flute.

Now I need to sell some of the flutes that I just don’t play any more, to make space (and help pay) for it. I’ll post here for about a week, and if I don’t have any takers, I’ll move them to e-bay.

Sweetheart keyless two piece flute, in rosewood. This is similar to the maple and cherry flutes on this website:
http://sweetheartflute.com/irishflutes.html
My flute is about 10 years old, and well cared for. It has has no cracks or any other damage. It has imitation ivory rings. I played this flute a lot for a long time, but then moved up to a keyed flute. Since then, it has been my second flute, used for traveling.
$200.

Sweetheart four key rosewood flute. This is like the flute on this website:
http://sweetheartflute.com/keyedflutes.html
It is about 3 years old, and has been well cared for - kept humidifed and oiled. It is is an easy flute to blow, and I think it has a nice sound. I love how lightweight this flute is. It includes one of Ralph’s older models of fitted case. (the case is not like the one on his website; it looks like a band flute case – black hardshell outside, blue plush inside that has been redone to fit this flute) $550, including case.

Kohlert 10 key (believe it or not) blackwood flute with tuning slide. I picked this flute up at an auction, when I was trying to decide if I wanted to invest in a good 8 key flute. The flute has two cracks. One runs along the back of the (lined) headjoint. It does not come near the embouchure hole. The other crack is along the side of the bottom joint, near the right hand first and second fingers, but not into the tone holes. I have glued this with superglue, but frankly, did not do a fabulous job of it. It has the standard 8 keys (C, Bb, G#, long and short F, Eb, low C# and low C). It also has a second Bb kay for RH1, and a key that plays at about a high E, which I have never fully figured out. The mystery key is also played with RH1. I have no idea of the value of this flute, but suspect it is not very high. PM me with an offer.

I will try to post pictures of these flutes in the next couple of days, along with sound clips. Shipping is extra, and will depend on the method of shipping that the buyer prefers. I have a Paypal account set up, but I am new at that, so I am not certain how well it will work. I’ll also accept a personal check, but will hold the instruments until check clears.

Please do not make offers on the board, but instead, send a PM or email.

thanks!!

The flutes are on e-Bay now. I’ve never sold anything on e-Bay, so I hope I’m doing this right!

A few comments: If I were selling I would definitely offer insurance. What recourse would a buyer have if a flute is damaged during shipping? There are mixed opinions on reserve price auctions. Reserves discourage some bidders, but do guarantee that you will not have to sell for a low, low price.

You do not mention a return policy. Are all sales final? If so state that up front to avoid problems later. Most sellers of musical instruments offer a seven day return but buyer usually has to pay shipping (often both shipping charges). This will discourage people from buying with no intention of keeping.

One nitpick, postal money orders do not take time to “clear”–you can get cash for them at any post office.

Good luck.

Thanks for the nits. I’d taken insurance (yes) and returns (no) for granted as givens, but I’ll revise those auctions to clarify.

Shannon,

In your eBay posting for the keyless Sweet you mention that you’ve acquired one of his 8 key flutes. How do you like it? I currently have a rosewood keyless like the one you’re selling, and am considering stepping up to one of his 8 keys. They haven’t yet been reviewed on this site (I’ve asked before), so your comments would be most welcome.

I’ve been reluctant to review mine, because I hadn’t played anything else but a Sweet. But I do like mine quite a bit. I was at Wind on the Bay, and got to play an Olwell and a Noy, and the Sweet is nothing like either of them. And I also just purchased a Polymer M&E. The Sweet is lighter and smaller than the M&E, easier to hold, for me, but almost as loud. And the Sweet sounds, well, sweeter than the M&E. The M&E is a lot reedier.

It took me a while to get used to the heaviness of the blackwood with the 8 keys, after my 4 key Rosewood. You can definitely tell it is a more substantial flute than the 4 key (that is a good thing, since it costs about 4X as much!) My ornaments are better on the 8-key.

I know this is not much help. If you are ever in Colorado, give me a holler and you can try it out.

Thanks for your comments!!! Muchly appreciated.
