FS: Some Great Whistles

Like many of you I have acquired an assortment of various whistles and unfortunately not all of them get played as much as I would like. Since I also suffer from tinnitus, I am moving towards quieter soprano whistles. So selling a few seems like a good idea.
All whistles listed below are in absolutely new condition and all are tuneable.

TONY DIXON DX006 D
TONY DIXON DX006 C
This is the re-designed improved model. ABS head tunes on a solid nickel slide, fixed in the thick-walled aluminium body, resulting in a solid, bright tone. With plastic carriers. http://www.tonydixonmusic.co.uk/catalogue/dixonshop.html

I don’t know if it is because Tony has so many different whistle models or that people aren’t used to using the Dixon model numbers and the DX006 gets confused with other models or what, but IMO the DX006 D & C haven’t been given the praise they deserve.
I purchased these new within the last 5 months from North Art Heritage Music in B.C. Canada.
I am asking $120 for the two complete C & D soprano whistles including shipping to the USA or Canada.*

SOLD WD SWEET POLYMER PRO
An all Delrin D whistle with a complex sound similar to Sweetheart’s classic wooden models without the care requirements associated with wood. With soft case, swab, and joint grease.
http://www.sweetheartflute.com/whistles.html
I purchased this new within the last 10 months from North Art Heritage Music in B.C. Canada.
I am asking $125 for this soprano whistle including shipping to the USA or Canada.*

SOLD SYN ALUMINUM Eb, D, C & Bb SET (one whistle head and 4 barrels)
The maker does not have a website, but you can check them out at: http://www.ozwhistles.com/shop/Ssyn.php
I purchased these new within the last year directly from Erle Bartlett in Australia.
I am asking $95 for the soprano set including shipping to the USA or Canada.*

SOLD TILBURY ALUMINUM D & C SET (one whistle head and 2 barrels)
I believe this to be the latest aluminum design (i.e. the lower lip of the mouthpiece is curved rather than flat).
http://whistlemaker.com/pages/whistles.php
I purchased these new within the last 4 months directly from Chuck Tilbury in Texas.

SOLD PARKS EVERY D & C SET (one whistle head and 2 barrels) has a unique ring that allows one to reduce the volume level produced.
The C barrel was purchased separately and has a small piece of Scotch tape on the barrel’s tuning slide for a nice fit. I have replaced the Every with a Parks Walkabout for portability.

I purchased the D new within the last 2 years directly Carey Parks in Florida.

Interested in the Tilbury set, sent you a PM.

prices Canadian $?

I’ll take Canadian $ - I’ll take U.S. $ too

The Sweetheart WD Sweet Polymer Pro has been sold.

The WD Sweet Polymer Pro has been sold and the Tilbury as well.

(I would have liked to have marked my original posting with a “sold” message on the Tilbury, but I guess there is some kind of limit on doing this.)

[ Yes, 3 days. Marked - Mod. ]

I had thought of accepting US money orders in addition to PayPal, but instead I think money orders will have to be dealt with on a limited case by case basis. Although I know that Canadian Banks will accept Western Union, I also know that there are some that they won’t accept (e.g. a USPS money order must be an international money order for cashing outside the U.S.A. or the banks here won’t cash it).

I find it strange that the Susatos and Syn whistles haven’t been scouped up since they are both quiet popular. BTW for the Susatos the “S” series is the SB - Small Bore and the “V” series is the VSB - Very Small Bore. They are all black.

The Susato’s are loud making them a popular session whistle, while the Syn whistles are of medium volume good for a small session or home.

The Parks Every happens to have a volume ring allowing a person to play at reduced volumes and is almost indestructible. Handy if you live in an apartment.

Cheers

The Syn set has been sold and Parks Every set is sold.

To recap on the Susato’s:

  • the “S” series is the SB - Small Bore and the “V” series is the VSB - Very Small Bore
  • they are in new condition and are all black in colour with thumbrests and joint grease.
  • the Susato VSB has similar playing characteristics to the SB but is not nearly as loud making it a good lower volume companion to the SB set,
  • the Susato Kildare S series D, C & Bb set (one whistle head and 3 barrels) plus one Kildare V series whistle in D currently sell for $128 and I am now asking $99 including shipping to the USA or Canada.

My new computer bought in May has major issues communicating. After spending a couple of hours on the phone with the hardware tecs yesterday, today I spent a couple of hours with the software people, but in the end to no avail. They are now going to courier a new operating system to me in the next day or so, but my feeling has always been that the Ethernet part of the motherboard has been slowly failing.

I also plan on being away most or all of next week if we survive Hurricane Earl that is.

If it’s the OS, I should be back up and running in a week or so. Unfortunately, if my hunch is correct then I suspect I’ll have to send or take my tower somewhere to have the motherboard replaced.

In any case, when I’m back online (I’m using my Grand Daughter’s laptop for today), I’ll start a new thread with the remaining whistles that are still available.

Update Sept 4th - Technician will be sent to my home to replace the motherboard. All covered under warranty. Now just waiting to see what hurricane Earl will do today - reaching landfall at 9:00 ADT!

Cheers!

Hello Red Hand of Ulster,

I wanted to use a green hand for my avatar but it was too big. So I settled for these B&W ones, and after all, we need 2 hands to play. Hope you made it back online. Was your power out? Mine was for 24 hours.

Just wanted to tell you how much I’m enjoying the WD Sweet! I posted about it elsewhere and heard that Walt calls it Black Pearl. I sent it to Sweetheart yesterday to fix the block. It had become a little loose, and after I dropped it on the floor at school, and later went to clean it, it came right out. So they are going to stick it back in the proper way.

I’m also excited about possibly teaching whistle to my students at school, instead of recorder, and hoping my principal likes the idea. I will use the Bill Ochs program Pennywhistles for Schools - a Clarke Meg whistle, beginner book by Bill, and free CD download for $5!

You should really come to our session! If you’re insecure about playing, just sit and listen at a nearby table, as several others do. I’m convinced you can learn some of the tunes by ear. It’s so much fun that it will inspire you!

Cheers!

After a motherboard replacement and then having to reload everything we are now back in business.

We were lucky during the hurricane - no damage and no power lose.

Peewit - I’m glad your enjoying the WD Sweet. Coming from an Irish flute I thought you would appreciate it more than someone with only a whistle background. I am surprised its components became loose though. Best regards.

BTW I actually chose the red hand as it is a main part of my mother’s Irish coat of arms and oddly enough my first name is a Scottish clan name which also has the hand in its crest. So the hand really has multiple meanings and is claimed by many.
