FS: Old Eb flute, and Busman Whistle

I’ve got two lovely things for sale today, a nice old flute, and a whistle. First the flute… I got this from a friend who claims that Grey Larsen claimed it was most probably American made in the 1870’s, perhaps Boston. What we do know is that it came from an estate sale in upstate New York. The flute itself is made out of cocobolo, with nickel silver rings and key. The flute is in pretty good shape, it has two repaired hairline cracks, one original, and one I just repaired. There are no cracks in the headjoint. The cracks that do exist were cause by what appears to have been to tight of tenons. The cracks are very hard to notice, and I have since re-threaded the tenons to avoid this from happening again. I also have replace the pad, and put a new cork in the headjoint. It’s a pretty good playing flute, a little quieter but is has a bit of a bark to it. The tuning is okay not perfect, two reasons. The footjoint is a bit to long thus making low Eb a bit flat, this could be corrected by having someone short the end of the flute .25" or so, not a huge repair, and should not affect the tuning of the other notes. The other note is the C(B equivilent on a D flte) is a cent or two sharp, a bit of shellec would fix this. Asside from this it’s a dandy flute. I have no reason to keep this though, i’ve got a lovely new Eb coming, and I need to pay off other instruments i’ve ordered. Asking $200 for the flute, also again, it’s an Eb flute, not a D flute.

My other item is a whistle that I no longer use, actually it’s my last whistle and I probably won’t get another, I prefer flutes and fifes. The whistle is a Busman in the key of D, blackwood, brass rings. It’s a really great playing whistle, the upper octave is very mellow, and it’s extremely responsive. It’s near mint so I am asking $200 for it. If you have any questions shoot me a pm, or email me at naadbrahma at gmail.com.
