I’m offering two mandrels for sale - a rolling mandrel and a flattening mandrel. Since acquiring my Whitmer chanter last January, I don’t roll my own staples any more - Nick’s chanters are designed for hobby tubing staples.
You can see mandrels in the following photo (last two on the right). They were made for me by John Ward in the summer of 2008 and I used them to make 10 or 12 staples. The mandrels are intended for making staples for concert pitch reeds out of sheet copper. They are modeled on the dimensions given by David Quinn in his book, the Piper’s Dispair. I’ll also include the two forming blocks (first 2 items on the left of the photo). The eye-forming madrel (centre) is not for sale.
