I was looking for a trade, but have decided to just put this flute up for sale. 8 keyed, ‘D’ flute from Hawkes & Son (c:1880s). Powerful, big sound, honking low ‘D,’ Pratten -esque flute. Large finger holes, typical tuning issues of antique flutes (flat F# and low D; can easily be blown in to tune once familiar with the instrument.). This is a flute that takes some work to play well. It is not one of the modern makers flutes with an adjusted embouchure, so if you are a beginning fluter,
take note, this flute will require some development of your embouchure. I am asking $2300.00. Basically what I paid for it with a tune-up or two included over the years. A friend is currently playing it so I can’t do sound clips, but I can provide photos upon request.
