Here I have a nice Gaita Gallega en Do. This is a Basadre set and the reason why I am selling it is because I already have too many pipes and I am not really using them at all. The sound is great!! The Puntero (chanter) DOES play 1 octave and a half. It only has one Drone which is the roncon (bass one) If you are interested, send me an email in here or in my personal email address at: docarrete(AT) gmail (dot) com
Here are two videos of me playing the set. The 1st one, I was in a hurry because the camera only had about 1 minute of space left, and that is why it was so fast!
I just found out that this Gaita is made by Angel Basadre de Guntín, from Lugo. I hope that helps. I do have pictures, however, I don’t know how to upload them here And the pipes do say Basadre Lugo.
Actually, what I was suggesting in my email (and I don’t know this for sure) is that given the choice of wood and the plastic rings that this was probably made after Angel died. It is more likely to be a work of Luis. Again, it’s only a logical deduction, a guess.
The Basadres are discussed in a few messages online. One says that there’s a Luis Basadre Mourenza, who continued a family tradition of making gaitas. Another page talks of a distinguished constructor named Angel Basadre de Guntín (from Lugo). Yet another says the elder died and another family member now builds gaitas off and on, but isn’t as serious about it. That’s probably our Luis.
The nicely crafted leather bag is interesting. Most of the gaitas I’ve seen have “vestidos” or fabric covers. In the past decade or so a lot of makers have also been using Gor-tex bags instead of leather, which makes this gaita a bit more “classic” in style and maybe gives it a nicer feel under the arm.
From the videos, it sounds like this gaita plays well. I’d be interested in giving it a whirl!
