FS: Copeland Irish Flute

Michael Copeland black wood keyless Irish flute. Stamped into the wood are the words" Copeland Philadelphia", a shamrock, and the numbers 868. Purchased new in the mid- 1980’s, one owner, excellent condition, + wooden case. Appraised by SF Bay Area piper/wind expert at between $700-900.

I’m selling this for my friend who played Irish fiddle professionally all his life, he bought this flute in the mid-1980’s. The case is probably not made by Copeland. He hasn’t played it all in the last 20 years. The appraiser told me it needs to be played - the re-hydration and care that a new player would give it is all it needs. He recommended Chiff and Fipple to find most discerning and caring new owner.

I’m asking $800 plus US shipping (in the US only). PayPal only.
I made a failed attempt to post photos, if you are interested please email me and I will happily send 8 photos. Thank you.

Update: The esteemed octogenarian who appraised the Copeland flute may have estimated a tad low. I have received 2 offers, one for over the $800 asking price. E-bay could be a way to find out “what the market would bear”, but… I’m an individual - a musician, not a dealer. I’d rather the flute be in the hands of a musician, not a dealer. I wish C&F were easier on newcomers. I have yet to figure out how to edit a post, delete a typo, post to the instrument exchange, or post photos. :boggle:
Here is the post once again with more details:

Purchased new in the mid- 1980’s, one owner, excellent condition, + custom wooden case. Appraised by SF Bay Area piper/wind expert at between $700-900. 4 pieces, Brass tuning slide, brass rings, corks fine, wood in fine condition, no cracks. I inspected the body with a critical eye and saw one minor 1/4" scuff mark. The case has had the hinges glued. The condition of the flute is clear in the pictures I will happily send if you are interested.

Take the over $800 offer you have and be done with it. That’s about $200 higher than you’d normally hope to get.

Are you the person who made the $800 offer before my original post was approved?

Nope. Copeland prices were recently discussed in this thread ( https://forums.chiffandfipple.com/t/value-of-copeland-flute/94582/1 ), to which I contributed, having owned 2 Copeland flutes previously.

BTW:

  1. You probably have enough of a post count now to access the Used Instrument Exchange forum.

  2. You should be able to use the EDIT button available at the bottom right of a message (near the Quote button) for a message that has been recently posted. Probably have like 24 hours or so to make changes.

  3. If you have pictures saved to an online picture host, you can get links that allow you to include them in your messages, or you can email me with the pics & I can post them in this thread for you. The thread on how to post images yourself is: https://forums.chiffandfipple.com/t/guide-to-posting-images/22873/1 . Could use some updating, but the bones of how to do it is in there.

Thank you, I read that post before. “I’d estimate about $600-$650. Without the crack & decent cork, perhaps $800. In like new condition, used, approaching $1,000 to an anxious buyer.”
My price seemed on the low side of your estimate ($800-1000)
I’m not sure why the value is now being compared to a flute with a crack in the head. I should have been more clear, this flute has no damage.
The directions for posting photos is perhaps geared toward PC users. (I use a mac)

Works the same. Upload the images somewhere like imgur and use the [img] tag like described in the post kkrell mentioned.

So:

???

It’s "

". And you have to use a URL to an individual image.

Here’s one from your imgur album:

eBay sales fees (& PayPal) would use up around 15% (about $120) of your final price. And, of course, I couldn’t see your photos regarding the flute being discussed. If the picture above is the same flute, it is one of those Michael made with a long foot (vented foot holes).
