FS: Bourgeois and Mitchell guitars (both SOLD)

Hi folks,

I still have two beautiful dreadnaught guitars that need a new home. Sale limited to the USA for risk of shipping damage and hassles, sorry. I have considered putting them on Ebay, where I might realize more of my investment back, but I would rather sell for less to those I know on the forums here if possible.

First is a Dana Bourgeois Slope D in fantastic 3-D Eastern Curly Maple, in a natural finish with a lightly toned Bearclaw Sitka Spruce top, with a Mark Leaf fiberglass case. Next is a Bil (yes, one L) Mitchell Dreadnought in Sitka Spruce/East Indian Rosewood. Both have Ebony fingerboards and bridges, and steel strings.

Both retail well over $2000, actually closer to $3000 and up now. Email me to talk about them or to make an offer-in the neighborhood of $1500 or so. I am able to take credit card payment via PayPal if you desire.

Both easily are in the class of a handmade guitar, and were handpicked by me after much playing and testing. Actually, the Mitchell was crafted by one man (in PA), and the Bourgeois in a very small luthier’s shop (in ME).

I’ve had the Bourgeois since '96, and the Mitchell since '99. Both are in above average condition, with not much playing time on either-neither was played professionally-only at home for relaxation.

If you are interested, let me know and we can talk more about them. They are wonderful guitars, but since I’ve been focused on flutes for a while and other instruments are on the agenda, they just don’t get played enough now. But the guitars are still well cared for and played occasionally at home.

Email is best for contacts, thank you.

Barry,

I think you’re seriously undervaluing the guitars. The Bourgeois slope-D’s for instance, sold through Pantheon Guitars, are now close to $4k.

I’d consider listing a FS message over in the Acoustic Guitar Newsgroup. Great bunch of guys there. In fact, I posted a message myself, and hope you won’t mind if I direct them to your post above.

Thanks for your post Kevin and referral from the acoustic guitar news group. Yes, I realize I am undervaluing my guitars, but considering the economy and my needs, I decided to let them go at more reasonable prices, especially if someone on Chiff wanted to buy them, where I know people and people know me.

I could easily put them on Ebay and probably get more, but sometimes the general public is harder to deal with too. Of course, I could put them on some other forums also-maybe I will do that, thanks for the suggestion.

Played them both a little the other day while I was refilling their humidifiers, and no doubt, they are serious guitars, both.

These are fantastic guitars Barry. You have good taste.

The flame maple on the Bourgeois is unbelievable. The rosewood back and sides of the Mitchell is beautiful.

The Bourgeois guitar is [SOLD] pending payment, thank you.

Sorry, the mandolin has been spoken for too! (pending payment) [SOLD]

May be selling a Fullerton Gloucester F style mandolin too. I just haven’t played it much at all since I got it. If anyone is interested (USA only please), let me know. You can do a search on them and read what good things others have said here and in the mandolincafe.com about them. A web search would probably turn them up too.

Thanks!

OK, let’s put this one to bed…the Bil Mitchell guitar is SOLD also, pending payment.

Thank you!

I just came across your ad and looked at these pictures again. Those are some beautiful guitars!

Yes, thanks Greg, they were pretty! Though they’ve both since gone on that long dusty trail into the sunset (with the help of FedEx) and are now in the hands of appreciative new players-I’m happy and also a little sad, to say. They will be missed! Am Em.
