friends & foes

I just noticed that Friends & Foes thing … I don’t remember that from before (I’ve just kinda gotten back to this board after several years away). Anyone use that to block someone out? Does it work? As I perused the board again I see names I remember from before and one I definitely always thought of as a jerk (not a foe, just a jerk). Do I block him out of my Chiff experience? Do I even care?

The thing is… since I think of this person as a jerk I really don’t care what he has to say on any topic, no matter how experienced he might be. I try to be understanding… I figure the person probably has some sad sort of life so here he can pretend to have some kind of control or feel people listen to him that he doesn’t in real life.

Just thinking out loud …

Sheryl

it is a BB software, release 3, half baked feature

I’m not sure that anyone has found much use for it at C&F

Friends: This is mostly useful for PMs. When you bring up your PM page, Friends are listed at the bottom left with their online status Just click on a name to send a message.

Foes: This tells the board software that you don’t want to see any posts (and, I think, messages) from these users. Each post is replaced by a placeholder line which you can click to expand if you’re curious, or if you need to read it to follow the thread. Frankly, I think it’s just as easy to instruct your eyeballs to move to the next post. But if you’re the kind of person who can’t resist, I suppose the Foes list might be helpful.

As Denny says … it’s a half hour short of an edible cake.

P.S. Of course, everyone is now wondering: Is it me??

 I have my doubts that the person who it is would be asking that question.

I’ll ask that question then, just to clear myself. Is it me?

I never foe’d anyone because I just thought their post would be missing and then the thread wouldn’t make as much sense.

that is exactly why I didn’t mention it

What is Denny saying? I can’t read his posts. :stuck_out_tongue:

Facebook has a feature along those lines. You can block an individual as well as an application (game). I have blocked an individual and some threads of mutual friends do look a bit odd. There is no opportunity to expand a concealed post. I don’t regret doing blocking them. C&F would have to change a lot for me to want to do that here. But if anyone wants to “block” or “foe” me, that is up to them.

I block all games :really:

BTW thank you for finding so many of them

:astonished: That’s so much better’n the “what’s 'e mean?”

I block prints, linoleum mostly.

I always thought the term foe seemed inaccurate and its handling of foes off. If some one is a foe, I want them to know it, yet it doesn’t inform them and so they can be asking questions, acting all buddy buddy, hang’n off my shoulder etc. and I wouldn’t be the wiser.

“Hide comments” would seem to be an accurate description and there could be reasons one would choose to hide comments other than them being a “foe”. Heck, I don’t need to reread my comments, yet for some reason I can’t list myself as a “Foe”.

Michael Corleone always said read your friends posts closely, and read your foe’s posts even closer. That’s a fact.

The only time I used the foe function
was when a user consistently brought
out the worst in me. I was tired of
having to go back and censor my
responses to him, so I put him on the
foe list. His posts were then collapsed,
but the BB gave me the option to click
on the hidden posts if I wanted to see
them anyway. So, I still had to exert
some self-control to keep myself from
looking anyway. So, yeah, it helps but
pure avoidance is still up to you to.

I hate everyone, so what’s the point of Foe-ing them? Stupid pointless clicky buttons…

I had an uncle, long deceased, who was organizing against the KKK in New Mexico in the 20s.
The clan’s motto was: ‘We’re 100 percent American!’ In Santa Fe there was a shop with the
sign in the window: ‘I’m 200 percent American!’ My uncle asked the owner why.
He said:

‘The clan hates Jews, Negros and Catholics. I hate everybody!’
