Free WiFi amplifier!

Having discovered Pandora Radio’s app for the iPhone, I was disappointed to find that my iPod Touch’s WiFi couldn’t pick up my wireless router’s signal down in my basement shop. Too bad, 'cause that’s the main place I wanted to listen to it while I make whistles.
I tried Googling “WiFi amplifier” and found a link to this do-it-yourself cardboard and aluminum foil parabolic device that you slip over the router’s antenna. I was skeptical but I cobbled one together (10 minutes) and I’ll be damned if it didn’t work like a charm! I listened this afternoon for over an hour without losing the signal even once-- usually I’ve been lucky if I could get it at all. Take a look if you’ve been having WiFi signal strength problems:

That google search will also turn up a couple of videos of people making this device or similar ones if the rudimentary instructions are not clear enough.

this is an other of those threads about focus, innit

That’s a crackup! I love it.

You could have one at each end if the receiving station also has an external antenna.

Does this improve on the traditional method of wrapping a piece of tinfoil directly around the antenna in a attractive “bow” shape?

did this one time with a pringles tube works a treat :boggle:

I also saw instructions online for using an aluminum soda can. I just didn’t happen to have one handy.

you can find the instructions on youtube

Wow. freeantenas.com … I like it. Glad you pointed that out.
