Victor Reny has created a Web portal for free musical score sites. Fortunately for those of us unable to read French, he included an English version at http://www.free-scores.com/index_uk.php3 . Here you can find scores for strings, wind, keyboard, choral, orchestra and drum/percussion – a huge variety of instruments – as well as MP3 arrangements. Files are downloadable from a variety of formats including text, video and PDF. Audio varies depending on the site; the ones I saw had MIDI audio as well as MP3.

The site also includes a FAQ and information on how to read music. The forum looks pretty busy but it appears to be mostly in French.
