I’m moving out of my apartment next month and am getting rid of some stuff. I found this whistle that a relative got for me when he went on a trip, it was either Florida or Jamaica. It makes … noise … but is NOT in tune or in any way a playable whistle. Purely decorative purposes. I’d be happy to send this to someone, I only ask shipping costs.
My Jamaican business partner says that island music is more about “riddims” than it is about being exactly in tune. “Riddims” means rhythm, obviously, but it also means soul, in the sense of American soul music.
I’m fairly sure that my cousin said he got it from a polynesian area in Flordia, but I know he also went to Jamaica, so I don’t know which location it was…
I also have a non-instrument, like this one, but I keep it handy in case I have to beat a burglar over the head with it, in the middle of the night. Those islanders make non-instruments out of very hard wood, and they make them very thick, also. I know that I won’t ever use mine for self defense, but what else are they good for? No one else wants them. (Hint, hint!)

Edit P.S. I just went back to take another look…boy is that thing ugly. (Sorry)

Beth, you’re moving to Idaho?
Now, that’s a word you always want to say quickly and not use a southern accent.
You say there’s a polynesian area in Florida? Several tribes of Native Americans perhaps… the only thing polynesian I know of is the Mai-Tai restaurant.
