FREE audio recording/editing software (OT)

From time to time the issue of reasonably-priced audio recording/editing software comes up in the forum. My brother just sent me this URL http://www.digidesign.com/ptfree/ where you can download a slightly stripped-down version of DigiDesign’s ProTools for free. Its a pretty massive download (40 MB) so modem users might want to check out the CD of the free program you can buy for $9.95 US shipping & handling fee.

Please note that I have never used this software and I’m not associated with DigiDesign in any way. I think this software might fill the needs of some C&Fer’s so I thought I’d pass along the URL. I do hope this does not violate the “non-commercial” rules of the board :slight_smile:

My knowledge is limited…is this a product that would let us record our Whistle playing
by plugging a mic into our home computers
somehow and then burning our own c.d.'s of the finished product?

Yes, AFAIK you can record your whistle with it using a microphone. Alas, my knowledge in this area is also very limited. DigiDesign’s target user for ProTools is the person who wants to run a home recording studio. My understanding is that it is a pretty sophisticated program. Just a few days ago Eskin posted a URL to a lovely rendition (with a whistle and a mandolin) of Gravel Walk that he did with Pro Tools.
