Search for “B flat flute” on Ebay and you’ll find the title “B-Flat 8-Keyed Wooden Flute Deep Tone (by a top maker)”

This is a top quality flute. I only got this flute a year ago and was delighted with its beautiful, full, deep tone. It is made by one of the world’s top makers of wooden flutes George Ormiston, from Scotland. Please check out his website (www.ormistonflutes.co.uk). I am a professional folk musician (formerly of ‘Back of the Moon’) πand play two other George Ormiston flutes. His flutes are known for their excellent intonation, full tone and masterfully engineered pin-mounted keys. I am gutted about selling this flute, but I must because my small hands haven’t been able to make the stretch of this big flute successfully enough - I am going to get a smaller F alto flute from George Ormiston to replace it.

This is a B-flat flat flute, meaning that you play a low B flat note by covering the six main holes. There are several top international folk musicians playing B flat flutes, like Brian Finnegan (Flook), Kevin Crawford (Lunasa), Michael McGoldrick, Alan Doherty (Grada), Seamus Egan (Solas), Iain MacDonald (Ossian/Battlefield Band) and Matt Molloy (The Cheiftains). The beautifully handmade flute is based on a Ruddal and Rose structure, is collapsable into four parts, is made of african blackwood, with silver keys and ferrules and brass inside the head joint to increase tone. Normally speaking, a customer would have to wait almost a year for a flute like this to be ‘made especially to order’ for £2385. However, this one is in top condition, is cheaper (£2000), and will arrive in the post from me within days of your purchase. The flute is also ‘played in’ - all wooden instruments must be ‘played-in’ for a year or so before their tone matures and ‘opens-up’, as the wood gets used to moisture, vibration and humidity of regular playing. This flute has been ‘played in’ successfully and has been very well looked after. It comes with a velvet-lined hard case.

This is an excellent buy for all wooden flute players, if you don’t have really small hands of course! Please email me if you have any questions at all. hamishnapier@hotmail.com or call me 0044 (0) 7971561693. This forum have requested that you do not contact me using the forum for this commercial sale. If you wish to arrange a time to come and try the flute that’s cool as well.

These are fine flutes and Hamish is a fantastic player (whose judgement you can trust) and a dead on bloke. If anyone is interested in this you should not worry about either flute or seller.

(He dances a nice step too - How’s things Hamish?)
