I hope a link to my Ebay auction is OK. This is a hard decision, it’s the best guitar I’ve ever owned, but I’m committing full time to the tenor banjo, and in doing so I’m giving up a great guitar. This guitar is a Larrivee D-02 R, a Rosewood bodied dreadnaught with a solid spruce top, handmade in Larrivee’s Canadian factories.
Per their website, Larrivee made a limited run of these for Guitar Center in 2000-2001. Click here for more details.
I played it about weekly for about two years, and it’s been sitting in its case with humidifiers for the past two as my musical interests changed. I’m currently selling it to make room for a vintage banjo.
This guitar came with a clear pickguard, which I peeled off for a clean look. There are two cosmetic blemishes: a scuff mark at the base of the guitar (see picture) and a scuff on the bottom inside of the soundhole. Other than that this guitar is in pristine condition.
Its Rosewood body gives it very warm bass tones with a rich, bright sound all the way up the register. It’s already setup with nice low action, but maybe could use a neck wrenching to set it up to your personal playing style.
This guitar also includes:
- Martin Thinline piezo passive pickup installed under the bridge, which in combination with a good preamp give you a very nice, realistic sound (with the drawbacks of piezo pickups, of course).
- The Guitar Center hardcase it came with. This case can stand up to the rigors of airline travel with no problems.
- The guitar is already set up with a nice, playably low action
- The pickup, setup and case together alone are worth nearly $300!
