Hi Marcus, and welcome. For some reason, I’m not able to post a reply under your question about notation, so I’m posting it here…sorry for the confusion.

Those little notes are grace notes…a form of ornamentation. They occupy no real time in the measure, so if you want to play them, you need to play them quickly…basically, they’re just “hinted” at. They have to be clean too though, so if you’re a beginner, I recommend you ignore them for now. Get the basic tune down first, then worry about ornamentation.

As far as the range of a low whistle goes, I’m afraid I can’t help you on that one, but I’m sure someone here can.

Thanks for the information and the welcome. So, the gracenotes are shown in actual notation? i.e. if (after lots of practice :slight_smile: ) I would play them, the little dots represent the actual notes? In the first example I would play A,G before playing the F#?

Yup, that’s how it works. I have to say though, that I rarely follow written ornamentation (and never slavishly). I tend to ornament a tune where and when my ear tells me a bit of a trill or turn (or cut or tap or double cut, etc.) would sound best.

I am currently learning to play the tune without ornamentation, I think that will take a while to get to for me as a beginner.
