Hi all. This may seem to be a bit strange, but I was wondering what effects might occur by removing the C# and Cnat keypads. I have an old Nach-Meyer, 8-keyed flute and I have noticed that by removing the said pads/keys, the flute has a much bigger sound, and a much stronger hard ‘D.’ I haven’t checked the tuning as yet, but I believe the low ‘D’ is playing sharper. The flute has internal tuning issues which I am slowly altering (I didn’t pay much for this flute, and it is a back-up, so I am comfortable working on it some). I generally have to ‘blow’ the flute into tune on several notes (F#, for example), but enjoy the tone of the instrument and waould like to keep playing it. By the way, the flute is slightly flat to A=440. I have enlarged the tone hole on the head joint which raised the pitch some, but not quite enough. I would appreciate any info regarding the pad issue.

Interesting, but I’m no tech. If you don’t intend to use the footjoint keys, go for it. Some people remove those keys altogether on old flutes if they play ITM.
BTW, check yer PMs. 
If you’re not going to use the C and C# keys, just take them off…that’s just as easy as removing the pads and less work to put back on later if you want them.
As Nano said, a lot of people remove those keys on old German flutes anyway; it does tend to make the bottom D stronger.
The flat F# is normal, no problem with that.
