Fnat: long or short key?

Hello folks,
I ask for curiosity, if you don’t own a 6keyed flute, wich type of F key will you choose? Conal O’Grada and Seamus Egan have suggested to prefer the long one, what do you think?
All the best

I like to use the long F ascending and the short F descending. Going from Fnat to E, I “pop” my ring finger off the key to land smartly on the E hole.

I’m with Rob on this one, I use both of them. That is why I have a roller in my short F key.

If you have to choose?

I use both keys a lot and would hate to choose. If really, really had to choose, I would go for the long one since the jump from D to F is quite common (I think) and is much easier to get by using the long F-key.

It’s not a choice I’d like to make, as I use both. However, I find the short F most handy–except for slurring D to F. However, I’ve seen players manage D to F using the short F key; it’s probably just a matter of putting in the time to minimize the ‘E blip’ in between.

“e blip”…is that some kind of internet thing? :stuck_out_tongue:

Having both is ideal (I do what Rob does, fwiw), but if I were to have only one I’d probably go with the short F. In fact, my antique flute baack with Jon C only had a short F because of shipping damage, and I got by fine with sticky tack plugging the long F hole.

I prefer the long F myself.
